Research RC Planes For Beginners

I think you’ll agree that it is vitally important to research RC planes for beginners as a starting point.  It will help you approaching your journey with at least some basic knowledge and a little understanding of your chosen subject.

A few years back I was asked to recommend a suitable book as a gift for someone who wanted to learn how to fly a radio controlled model plane. Nothing too technical but providing the basics needed to give this newcomer the best chance of success. At the time I was unable to find such a publication. Most books on the market were aimed at model builders or people with some experience and looking to take a particular direction within the hobby. I was unable to find one purely aimed at advising and helping an absolute newbie.

Having had a good number of years flying all types of radio control planes (excluding helicopters) and as a qualified and experienced instructor and examiner for the British Model Flying Association “A” & “B” certification training scheme, I thought that maybe I could put pen to paper and offer such a publication.

The end result, “Flying Radio Controlled Model Aircraft”, was first published in 2007 and has since sold globally, helping many a rookie gain their wings.

“I had taken a trial lesson at my local club and wanted for find out some more about how the controls worked before my next lesson. This book was perfect. Clearly written with perfect diagrams explaining everything I needed to know. At my next lesson everything was much clearer to me”.   Nigel Rose

I strongly recommend that if you are contemplating learning to fly a model plane, “Flying Radio Controlled Model Aircraft” should be one of your first purchases. Your journey to success will necessitate a simple understanding of flight principles to compliment your actual flying practice. This book will do just that in an easy, friendly style.

“It gave me all of the information I was seeking and needed to learn the hobby of flying model airplanes. I took the advice in the book and followed them to a tee. I have my AMA liscence, I belong to a great club. The South Jersey Silent Flyers”.   James Stewart

Flying a radio-controlled model plane is one of the most enjoyable and absorbing hobbies. It combines the fun of building and/or maintaining a real miniature aircraft with the challenge of flying it just like the real thing, keeping the appropriate distance between the aircraft and the ground at all times! The early stages of the hobby can be a steep learning curve, and it is all too easy to be put off by early mishaps.

This book explains the principles of model flight in an easy-to-read style. It is a flight manual for any pilot of fixed-wing model aircraft and includes details of internal combustion and electric-powered flight. “Flying Radio Controlled Model Aircraft” gives all the information required to become a successful pilot in the shortest possible time.

“This book is excellent — concise, well illustrated, and obviously written by someone with a lot of experience in both flying and teaching others. Great book for beginners, or even those who are contemplating learning to fly RC”.  Willis Traphagan

Great article, I agree that it is always buying a book to learn a bit more about rc as a hobby. When you’re out in the field and need info, a book in your backpack can really help.

    all the best
